This month I’m celebrating a special birthday. Yes, it’s five years ago since I decided to start my own life drawing for hen parties service. It wasn’t called Art Hen Party at the beginning, but an apt name that was suggested to me this year.
So, as well as being that time of year, it’s even more of a reason to reflect at the successes and lessons to learn from this year as well as celebrating the last five.
Rewarding fifth year
2016 has been a ‘difficult’ year – with respect to politics (if you follow my Twitter handle you’ll know my opinions) as well as for the passing of too many wonderful and creative people. However, from my business’ point of view it’s been an incredibly rewarding year. I’ve run more events in 2016 than ever before.
They all kicked off from the end of January, when I had a long journey to Stockport for a lady’s 50th birthday. Since then, I’ve had at least one event every single weekend for the following eight months.
There have been a few ups and downs over the year – but definitely more ups that downs. The worst situation was being stopped by an undercover police car for speeding while on my way to north Devonfor an event. I was within a hare’s whisker away from losing my licence for six months. I’ve learnt a very valuable lesson from that ! Anyway, I digress..
On the positive side, I’ve got to a point where people are looking for my services online, and the referrals and re-bookings have been happening. I’m getting more and more testimonials from groups happy with the experience which I provide as well. Honing my drawing skills
I’d been life drawing for quite a few years before I ever became a model, so I was relatively experienced at drawing before stepping over the easel. However, since modelling, I’ve not had a chance to hone my personal skills apart from listening and learning from other tutors while I posed. This year however, I returned to drawing! I’m reasonably pleased with drawing you can see on the right – especially the right hand. Now I feel that I’m able to offer fresh tips and techniques to teach hen party groups the basics of drawing.
At the end of the month, I’ll have my usual lighthearted Awards of the Year blog reflecting on the different groups and experiences I’ve had over the year. I think the first in Stockport and the last but one in north London will certainly be up there for the naughtiest, but you’ll just have to read it when I publish the list at the end of the month!
If you’re interested in booking me for next year, please get in touch as soon as possible as I’m already beginning to get bookings for various weekends from February onwards.
